American Star made in China it’s about transforming some products, some characters, some ideas in STARS. It’s about blowing, it’s about a huge implementation of some false models through this “artificial overthrow of the dimensions”…
A sport shoe which in Romania is wear by those who have a bad financial situation, people between 7 and 50 years, or maybe more. The children tear them playing football and the older persons wear them on building sites as a part of their uniform. It’s not a fashion star as it happens in many countries where fashion pulls out a lot of clichés and attitudes. It’s about a simple object (like use and throw), which is marked more or less accidentally AMERICAN STAR, but they are MADE IN CHINA. Not being a pompous object and at that fashionable level generated by stars which reign all over, I allow myself to choose a way to transform it into a STAR: I mean I allow myself to adopt the same kind of strategy, but with another attitude…

… in Bucharest there is this market where I use to go often to buy a special kind of shoes… shoes which I don’t have to pay too much for… it’s something like buying cigarettes for two days…
I bought my first pair of AMERICAN STAR shoes… they smell awful in the first days… it’s the smell of a terrible rubber, the most unpleasant material that you might think to attach to your feet for a few hours a day… and when you know you have to stick with it for more than 7 hours, you think again… but this is only in the beginning… because after a while, when you realize that that smell disappears and that you really feel comfortable with it… what’s the problem?!... it’s true that they are not the original stuff, the one that costs as the food for your family for 2 weeks, so… these are THE BEST!!!... last week I bought a pair for me, cause the other pair has a little problem with the glue… yesterday I saw the guy next-door with a pair of shoes like mine; he was going to work, to the building site where he works all day long; so, it has to have comfortable shoes and not to be very sad if by accident one of the shoes is destroyed… and, of course, his kids have shoes like mine and his, because every day, after school, they play for a couple of hours in the yard behind the block of flats; there is a small yard, with a little bit of grass and lots of stones, pieces of wood, left there for a few years, where they enjoy to play football and to build small houses… this way begins the game “family”… and the special shoe is, most of the cases, an important element, without being noticed… because it’s cheap, because it’s for everybody and because it does not have anything to do with fashion…
